Recent publication; "Six Sigma for Technical Processes: An Overview for R&D Executives, Technical Leaders and Engineering Managers" by C.M. "Skip" Creveling.

The book provides leaders of a company's technical product development and post-launch support processes with an effective Six Sigma-enabled framework for accomplishing their goals.  It is an overview of how to proactively apply Six Sigma within the four technical processes of:

Six Sigma for Technical Processes: An Overview for R&D Executives, Technical Leaders and Engineering Managers
  • product and technology portfolio definition,
  • research and technology development,
  • product commercialization and
  • production and service support engineering

It sets the stage for a comprehensive Six Sigma-enabled work flow for technical professionals.  The two major themes are:

  1. Excellence in planning product and technology portfolios so the right number and sequence of projects are activated, and
  2. Excellence in project execution within the research and technology development and product commercialization processes

The book is in response to Skip's years of training and mentoring engineering teams in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methods.  The teams, excited by their success using DFSS methods, would often ask, "Do our leaders understand and agree with this approach and will they support us?  Do they realize that our ability to design a product correctly the first time is compromised by giving us too many projects and too little time?"  The result is this book, which pulls together a framework for leaders to exploit the power of Six Sigma to design better workflow and the processes they use throughout the organization.

"Six Sigma for Technical Processes" is a volume in Prentice-Hall's Six Sigma for Innovation & Growth Series.  See our Publications page to learn about all our books.
